McCallum: “I look back with a great deal of satisfaction”

Allan McCallum AO and former Cann Group CEO, Peter Crock, with the Company’s first genetics received from AgriBio.

As Allan McCallum AO speaks about his journey with Cann Group, there is an unmistakable tone of pride in his voice.

A founder and initial investor in the Company, Allan announced his retirement as Chairman of Cann’s Board on Monday (28 August 2023), bringing to an end an incredible, nine-year ride.

A changing global medicinal cannabis landscape over the course of that past decade has certainly caused challenges. But Allan cites the “on-time, on-budget” completion of the Company’s Mildura facility amidst that shifting environment - as well as a global pandemic - as a source of immense fulfillment.

Among his other achievements at the Company, Allan has overseen the public listing of Cann Group, the securing of Australia’s first cannabis research and cultivation licences as well as being a key figure in building the broader medicinal cannabis industry in Australia to the point as we know it today.

“I look back with a great deal of satisfaction that we’ve got Cann to where it is today,” Allan said.

“The foundations are there for the future and I’m positive that the production coming out of Mildura is everything we aimed for.

“I believe Cann will be a key player for many, many years, providing patients with quality, Australian-grown cannabis.

Allan’s retirement from the Cann board ends his associations with listed public companies, which started back in 1997 and has included industries such as aquaculture, grain, fertilizers and explosives, medical devices, pharmaceuticals and, of course, medicinal cannabis.

“It’s been a fantastic journey.”

And, will Allan continue watching Cann Group’s progress closely in retirement?

“The McCallums have been committed to this task of getting Cann up and profitable since day one and we have no intention of stopping that now, we’re there for the ride and to join in the success of the journey to come.”
